VNV Nation se han acabado convirtiendo en uno de los grupos más personales del synthpop debido a que mezclan este mencionado género con industrial y trance (sobre todo en sus primeros discos). Este dúo radicado en Alemania está formado por el vocalista irlandés Ronan Harris y el batería y teclista británico Mark Jackson y comenzaron a trabajar juntos en 1990. A lo largo de su extensa carrera han editados ocho discos: Advance And Follow en 1995, Praise The Fallen en 1998, Empires en 1999, Futureperfect en 2002, Matter + Form en 2005, Judgement en 2007, Of Faith, Power And Glory en 2009 y Automatic en 2011. Las siglas de su nombre significan "Victory Not Vengeance" (Victoria, no venganza) en referencia a la temática de sus letras, que giran en torno a que uno tiene que buscar siempre el triunfo y la prosperidad y no incubar comportamientos negativos como el victimismo, la sed de venganza o la autocompasión.

Pro Victoria es la intro del disco, discretamente orquestada y con una notable percusión de aire marcial y da paso a Sentinel, el primer tema propiamente dicho, muy electrónico en el que parece que la voz suena un poco apática al principio pero una vez encarado el primer estribillo ya coge cuerpo y dibuja unas buenas melodías vocales. Tomorrow Never Comes es más lineal y homogénea, sin cambios como el del tema anterior, ese piano que acompaña la línea puramente electrónica del tema le da un contrapunto muy melancólico. En The Great Divide aparece un bajo sintetizado que aunque está en primer plano no le quita protagonismo al resto de elementos, precisamente aquí suenan un poco menos a ellos mismos para sonar más rollo electroclash. Ghost es un corte sinuoso, atmosférico y misterioso; siempre han demostrado tener muy buena mano en los cortes baladístico pero creo que en esta ocasión nos encontramos ante una de sus mejores baladas debido a ese ambiente tan melodramático y tenso (sobre todo debido a los samplers y la sección orquestal del final) que consiguen. En Act Of Conflict tenemos una extensa pieza llena de voces recitadas en un transfondo musical muy llenapistas que remite al sonido de sus primeros discos, más duros y menos synthpoperos que los actuales pero al llegar a In Defiance volvemos al sonido de sus últimos discos nuevamente con el bajo "de pega" que no les queda del todo mal aunque prefiero cuando optan por un sonido más basado en sonidos electrónicos con un toque orquestal en segundo plano. Llegados a Verum Æternus apuestan por unos sintetizadores de corte vintage y un transfondo melancólico en su primera parte para dar paso a una segunda mitad mucho más animada y con más tramos instrumentales. From My Hands es otra balada aunque esta vez es más monótona y no tan buena como la anterior, tiene un algo que me hacer pensar en bandas como Coldplay cuando la escucho, aunque sin llegar a la genialidad de éstos o incluso de otros temas de ellos mismos pero por suerte enseguida recuperamos nivel con Where There Is Light, una grandiosa composición llena de esperanza y que, como bien señala su título, tiene uno de los estribillos más luminosos que jamás han hecho y en el ecuador del tema aparecer una parte más propia de una balada pero que crea un contraste muy efectivo y agradecido.
